Spoofers Explained: What They Change, Temporary vs Permanent, and Their Limits
A spoofer changes what your machine reports about itself. It does not lift bans, does not unlink accounts and does not make a cheat safe — it solves exactly one problem out of several.
A spoofer is software — almost always with a kernel driver — that changes the identifiers an anti-cheat uses to recognise your computer. It has one job: after a hardware ban, make the machine report a different identity than it did before. Everything else attributed to spoofers in marketing copy is attributed wrongly.
What gets changed
The list mirrors what goes into a hardware fingerprint:
- motherboard serial and UUID from SMBIOS;
- storage device serial numbers;
- network adapter MAC addresses;
- Windows software identifiers such as
MachineGuid, install ID and machine name; - in some builds, GPU, monitor and BIOS values.
The subtlety is that each of these can be read through several paths — WMI, registry, direct storage controller queries, kernel structures. A spoofer that changes a value on one path but not another produces an inconsistency, and inconsistency is itself a signal. Quality is measured by how coherent the new identity looks from every angle, not by the length of the feature list on the product page.

Temporary spoofers are the practical default. Nothing is written permanently, and any mistake is undone by rebooting. The cost is discipline: forget to apply it once before launching, and the anti-cheat sees your real identifiers that session. A single such launch invalidates the whole arrangement.
Permanent spoofers appeal because they remove the ritual. In exchange they touch firmware and service areas of storage devices, which are not always recoverable. Worth knowing: a share of products marketed as permanent are in fact session-based with an autostart entry. Ask the seller before paying rather than after.
What a spoofer does not do
This is the section that matters.
- It does not lift a ban — not a game account ban, not a platform profile ban. The banned account stays banned.
- It does not break account links. Payment method, e-mail, IP history, shared match history all work independently of hardware. A new account paid for with the same card is linked to the old one without any HWID involved.
- It does not make cheats safe. A spoofer handles machine identity; it has nothing to do with what an anti-cheat finds in the game’s memory. A detected build stays detected.
- It does not guarantee an outcome. Anti-cheat vendors work against spoofers continuously, and any honest seller will confirm that a spoofer reduces the chance of a repeat ban rather than removing it.
- It does not clean the system. Files, logs, registry entries and caches from previous use remain exactly where they were.
Side effects worth knowing in advance
- One more kernel driver. Vanguard and FACEIT AC block unsigned and known-vulnerable drivers; in those titles a spoofer may fail to load, or prevent the game from launching at all.
- Licence reactivation. Software and games bound to hardware may demand reactivation after a spoof. Windows itself usually survives an identifier change, but that is not a promise.
- Networking oddities. Changing a MAC address occasionally breaks DHCP leases or access on networks with address-based authorisation.
- Antivirus conflicts. Driver-based spoofers are routinely flagged as unwanted software. Disabling protection to run one is a deliberate trade-off, not a formality.
When a spoofer is the right purchase
One realistic scenario: you took a hardware ban, you have a new account, and you want to play from the same PC again. The order then is — confirm the ban really is hardware-based (how to test), pick a spoofer that supports your anti-cheat and Windows build, and test it on a cheap account rather than an expensive one. In games where the account itself costs money, such as Escape from Tarkov, that last point is not optional.
